The 1944 Mass Flight Memorial in Pärnu
Dedicated to the tens of thousands of Estonians who fled the repressions of the USSR. Completed with the support of the Estonian World Council Mass Flight Committee (EWC SP1944) and the Pärnu City Government, as well as global donations. It was gifted to the city of Pärnu by the EWC SP1944 committee during the opening ceremony on September 21, 2024. The project was led by committee member Kristi Vuht Allpere.The author of the memorial is sculptor Elo Liiv. The information plaque was created by the EWC SP1944 committee.
Several EWC member organizations, including the EANC, EERO Canada and AESL. In Estonia, donations were collected with the help of Tammepuu Eesti Klubi MTÜ.
Thus, native Estonians and Estonian communities abroad, their descendants and friends, were able to contribute. The construction of the
memorial was overwhelmingly supported by Estonian communities abroad.
