PÄRNU MUSEUM
The permanent exhibition ‘11,000 Years of History – Experiences from Times Long Ago’ takes you on a fascinating journey through time, starting from the Stone Age, continuing through the medieval trade routes and the Baroque fortified city to the nostalgic Soviet era. You can also learn about the evolution of the resort town that is very characteristic of Pärnu. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum has areas for temporary exhibitions; the multifaceted programme includes alternating exhibitions of art and history.

THE RED TOWER -
360º of history
The Red Tower is Pärnu’s oldest structure. Built in the early 15th century, the corner tower of the city wall was both a fortification and a prison.
In this fascinating building you can now get acquainted with the architecture of this ancient tower, the medieval town of New-Pärnu, and history of Pärnu.
In the Red Tower’s modern panoramic cinema, you can watch the animated film "Merciless and Merciful History. In the Red Tower through 15,000 years", which introduces Pärnu’s history. You will see how the surroundings of the city have changed and developed since the Ice Age, and find yourselves experiencing a series of symbolic and exciting historical events.
The ticket allows you to stay in the Red Tower for up to 30 minutes at a time. It includes a panoramic cinema session and, if desired, a short introduction to the Red Tower by a museum employee.

THE KOIDULA MUSEUM

Lydia Koidula (1843–1886) is a beloved poetess and publicist who spent her youth in Pärnu. The memorial museum is located in the house that was her home from 1850 to 1863. It is known as the Pärnu Ülejõe Schoolhouse, where her father J.V. Jannsen worked as a schoolmaster at that time. Father Jannsen is also the founder of the Estonian-language journalism and the author of the lyrics of the Estonian anthem. You can get acquainted with their life and activities in the context of the Estonian national awakening, where the first Estonian song festival, Estonian theater, Estonian anthem and national flag were born, as well as cultural relations with kindred people.
